Effective treatment for broken veins, spider veins, cherry angiomas and thread veins

Broken veins, spider veins, cherry angiomas, thread veins; just a few of the many vascular conditions that patients come to the Clinic seeking treatment for. One of the treatments available to you at Marsh Medical Skin Clinic is Thermal Red Vein Treatment which uses a technique known as thermo-coagulation.

How it works

This widely-used technique was developed by leading vascular surgeons; the treatment uses an ultra-fine insulated needle to heat the unwanted vessels in the skin. This then destroys the vein and your body gradually breaks it down and removes it. This technique protects the skin and surrounding tissue whilst allowing your practitioner to accurately apply the treatment to the targeted vessels.

Effective on both the face and the body. Thermal Red Vein Treatment is ideal for treating spider veins, symptoms of rosacea, angioma, telangiectasia and thread veins.

Indications that Thermal Red Vein Treatment may be right for you:

  • You have rosacea and are noticing symptoms such as facial broken veins.
  • You have unwanted, superficial broken veins on your legs and have had any deeper veins treated previously.
  • You have unwanted veins on your face.
  • You have other vein-related concerns such as blood spots (also known as cherry angiomas).

Frequently Asked Questions

How does my body remove the treated vein after the Thermal Red Vein treatment?

Our bodies have scavenger cells called macrophages which breakdown and ingest the treated vessels to safely remove them from your body.

I have background redness and broken facial veins from Rosacea, will Thermal Red Vein treat all these symptoms?

In our experience, Thermal Red Vein Treatment is best to treat individual vessels/veins. There are alternative treatments which can help to reduce general background redness.

I have leg veins; can you treat these with Thermal Red Vein Treatment?

We can treat the small, broken red veins on your legs. Thermal Red Vein Treatment is not suitable to treat large, deep (often blue) veins. We strongly suggest that your first action is to have a doppler scan to see if you have any large, deep veins which are ‘feeding’ the smaller veins you can see on the surface of your skin as you sometimes cannot see deep veins; especially if you have a family history of varicose veins. If your scan shows you have varicose veins, you will need to have these treated first otherwise they are likely to continue pumping blood to the small surface vessels.

How many treatments will I need?

Dependent on your concern. More than one session may be needed. Some conditions or concerns may require maintenance treatments.

How long does the procedure take?

Dependent on the size of your treatment area and/or number of lesions you’re having treated. The average session ranges from 10 to 30 minutes. In most cases, we recommend using an anesthetic cream on the skin for 30 to 60 minutes prior to treatment, which would be applied in-clinic by one of our practitioners to ensure your comfort. It’s worth noting that if a large area requires treatment the patient may require more than one session to cover the entire area.

What results can I expect?

Dependent on your concerns and how quickly your body removes the treated vein. We would usually review you after a month and, with most patients, expect to see some improvement at this time.

How long will it take to recover from the treatment?

Redness and/or mild swelling may be seen in the treatment area post procedure. Micro-scabbing may develop in the treatment site and, in general, can last several days. This is not uncommon and is managed well by patients with the use of a tinted moisturiser.

When can I resume my normal activities?

We usually recommend avoiding extreme temperatures, such as saunas, and being direct sun light, such as being on a hot holiday, immediately post treatment. We’d also advise avoiding exercise for a few days post facial treatment and up to one week if your legs have been treated; full aftercare will be provided prior to treatment.

Will I experience and pain or discomfort?

Discomfort is mild, with the use of local anesthetic cream. Patients liken the sensation to warm pin-pricks.

How long will the results last?

Dependent on concern being treated, however many patients report improvement for years post treatment. As the concerns treated by the Thermal Red Vein Treatment are usually connected to your circulatory system more than one session may be needed due to the continuous pumping of your blood and some conditions or concerns may require maintenance treatments.

Is a consultation needed prior to treatment?

Yes
