What is a NeoStrata chemical skin peel?

NeoStrata ProSystem Peels contain glycolic, mandelic and citric acids with different options of strength. They are used to remove the top layer of damaged surface cells; this reveals fresh cells that are smoother and brighter. The treatment also stimulates cell turnover and encourages collagen and elastin production in the deeper layers that plumps the skin.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does treatment feel like?

All our Advanced Skin Facials are pain-free and comfortable, although some clients can feel a warm tingling sensation during exfoliation.

What does the treatment involve?

Skin peels are advised as a course of treatment, and are accompanied with home care products to maximise results.

Your practitioner will have assessed your skin prior to the treatment and will have decided what chemical skin peel best suits your skin type or condition being treated. Your skin will be cleansed and prepped and the peel will then be applied, you may experience a ‘tingling’ sensation while the peel is on. Following this the peel will  be neutralised and aftercare products will be applied. Your practitioner will also advise on skincare products to use at home.

How long will the treatment take?

The treatment will take about 30 minutes.

How long is the recovery period?

It is not uncommon for the skin to be red and appear flushed for a couple of hours after treatment. You may feel that your skin is a little bit sensitive for a few days following treatment and the skin may also be slightly dry and flaky as the renewal occurs. Daily application of sun screen is required but otherwise you can return to normal activities.

Can I apply makeup after the treatment?

It is advised not to put make-up on after a facial, but we appreciate people lead busy lives and you may be going straight back to work. Make-up can be applied and it wont harm the results of the treatment, though we do advice mineral make-up more as it is light and lets the skin breathe. We can apply our Jane Iredale mineral make-up here which you may well be advised to use as part of your treatment plan.

How many treatments will I need?

For people with specific concerns such as acne, pigmentation, rosacea, ageing a course of (3-6) treatments is recommended at around 2 weekly intervals. For all other skin types that just want a freshening of the skin a treatment can be performed once every 1-3 months,

How long will the results last?

The effects can be ongoing; if the right products are being applied between treatment you will have a long lasting effective treatment.
